Whether you’re in the mood for a light fruity wine or a dry sauvignon blanc, BC has become known for its incredible wineries and vineyards. Every its own bouquet, influenced by a number of different things: from the amount of sun the grapes get, to harvesting methods, to how long it’s stored in wooden barrels. Langley is a place where each wine has its own story. You can almost taste the history in each bottle. Why not take that experience to the next level by touring the local vineyards and sampling the spoils of our local wineries for yourself. Here are our personal favourite wineries of Langley!
Township 7 Vineyards and Winery 🍇🌳
In 2001, Township 7 first opened their cellar doors to the public in the town of Langley. With a cellar style tasting room, and vast green vistas to walk along, Township 7 is perfect for those who want to explore the diverse world of winemaking.
No matter what type of wine you prefer, you’ll always find a flight you want to take home! From Sauvignon Blanc to Pinot Noir – Township 7 has a wide range that will captivate any wine lover. With wine and food seminars to boot, learn how to be an excellent host for next weekend’s dinner party. Staff will be keen to help you find the best pairings, so there is no risk of confusion. To cap it all off, there is a beautiful outdoor patio that overlooks the grape vines. Idyllic for those in the mood for a picnic.
Chaberton Estate Winery 🥪🍷
If you’re from Langley and enjoy wine, you’ve definitely heard of Chaberton. With over 55 acres on the rolling hills of southern Langley, Chaberton is one of the largest and oldest wineries in the Fraser Valley.
The wines on display range from everyday dinner wines to top of the line bottles – many of them have won awards in Europe, the USA, and Canada. With barrel-aged Chardonnay, a dry cabernet sauvignon, and a rich Merlot –Chaberton has the ideal bottle to pair with any meal. A highlight of Chaberton is their restaurant & bistro, where they serve their wine with French classics like their heavenly French Onion Soup. Enjoy Chaberton’s wine on their expansive patio and wander the winery, learning the magic that goes into your favourite bottle.
Backyard Vineyards 👰🔔🍷
The tasting room at Backyard is open year round, so whether you need a place that’s air-conditioned to escape the heat, or heated for when the snow comes down, Backyard will always be able to accommodate you. Summer is the perfect time to go on their guided tour, visiting the beautiful vineyards, seeing how the grapes are juiced and then stored in barrels to add that extra flavour. Backyard also hosts private events, with up to 50 seats and a fully wooden gazebo, it’s an excellent backdrop for weddings or a place for celebrations. With wooden tables spread out in the fields, enjoy a picnic in the sun with a bottle of your choosing.
Backyard Vineyards is VQA certified. For those who are not in the know, VQA is a set of strict rules that is in place to validate Canadian wines. That means you know that it’s coming from high quality purely local wineries.
Festina Lente Estate Winery and Meadery 🍯🐝🥂
Not many wineries deviate from the tried and true formula of crushing grapes and letting them sit in a barrel for years. If you’re looking for a more experimental approach, Festina Lente would like to introduce you to the world of mead.
Mead has been around for centuries and has begun to resurface in the wine community. It is a combination of fermented honey, yeast, and water providing both a sweet taste and earthy undertones. If you’re curious, Theresa (aka the Queen Bee) provides both a knowledgeable and entertaining experience, taking you through the wines, mead, and honey on display. If you’re looking to satisfy your sweet tooth, Festina Lente also has honey tastings, where the beekeepers allow you to try honey fresh from the comb.
Krause Berry Farms & Estate Winery 🍓🍒🍷
What can we say about Krause Berry Farms that hasn’t already been said? If you’re a long time reader with us, you’ve heard the stories about their magnificent U-pick farms and their devotion to using compostable and reusable products. With many summer events like the butterfly release, pancake breakfasts, and live art shows – Krause Berry Farms always has something to do.
But you’re reading this blog for wineries, and luckily, along with all the other amazing activities Krause Berry Farms has, they also managed to fit a winery on their land. They have five different types to try, all sourced from their fresh berry farms. With blackberry, apple, raspberry, and strawberry wines – you’ll find a tipple to take home. With the wine tour comes Krause’s delicious baked goods, so make sure to bring a picnic blanket with you, so that you can sip some wine, munch on some berry pies, and soak up the sun.
Blackwood Lane 🤵🏆🍷
Finish your wine tour off with a bang by visiting Blackwood Lane. With an expansive deck that has beautiful views of the grape fields, you can enjoy their higher-end wine under some shade or bask in the sun. If you’re looking for some Italian cuisine (I mean who isn’t?) Blackwood Lane has a pizza oven to turn those delicious doughy disks into a warm, fulfilling cheesy meal. If you are a wine aficionado, then Blackwood Lane is the place to go.
